The business practices of this bank with the mass market consumer accounts are borderline criminal.
Multiple times, I've deposited cash (US Currency) in my account and then logged onto the account online to see when it is posted to the account. Commerce chooses to put a CASH deposit into a pending status and not post it until the very end of the day AFTER they apply checks or other debits on the account, which allows them to satisfy the debits by hitting the linked Commerce Bank Mastercard for 'convenience' of overdraft protection. The amounts pulled over from the credit card are intentionally too small to cover the charges, allowing them to draw on the credit card multiple times, and hit the account with a Fee, which immediately starts accruing interest at a usury rate immediately.
Other banks and credit unions post CASH deposits to a customer account immediately, but Commerce chooses to manipulate these transactions to exploit their customers and squeeze as much fee income from them as possible.
Commerce was sued for this practice in and agreed to pay out $8.3M in settlement charges, most of which went to class action attorney's back in 2011/2012 (see link), but the practice is so lucrative they apparently choose to continue on with the practice, hoping they won't get caught.
Your well served to simply avoid ever banking with them altogether.
I've been with them over 20 years and this is it. I'm done with them. Way too many better options out there.
